 Experts Address Construction and Architecture Students

The Association of Engineering Construction and Architecture Students (AECAS) on 14th May 2026 hosted a public lecture on Mainstreaming Social Safeguards and Adaptive Settlement Planning in Built Environment Education and Practice.  

The Chairperson, Department of Architecture, Design and Planning, Dr Joseph Kedogo noted that the event was important thanked the visitors on behalf of the University Management.

The Executive Director of the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) Dr.  Fadel Ndiame, gave a key note address on Reflections on the role of academia, evidence and Social safeguards in shaping inclusive development practice.

MMUST Team Benchmarks Admissions Processes at TU-K

A delegation from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology recently visited TU-K for a benchmarking session focused on the University’s admissions processes and the functionality of the TUSOFT system.

The visiting team sought to gain insights into how the Tusoft software supports admissions management and enhances service delivery to students. They were particularly interested in understanding the efficiency of the system and exploring possible best practices that could be adopted at MMUST.

TU-K Student Shines in Chinese Language Competition

A Journalism and Mass Communication student at the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) scooped the prestigious Rising Star Award at the 25th Chinese Proficiency Bridge Competition for Kenyan Colleges held at the University of Nairobi on 30th April, 2026. Masha Fely Owour, who was praised for her display of Chinese cultural intelligence, also emerged top in the Non-Confucius Institute Category (Awarded as the top-performing student representing an institution outside of the specialised Confucius Institutes) as well as emerged as the 3rd runner-up overall out of 20 elite contestants in the national competition category.

Winners Awarded As Curtains Fall on Innovation Week

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research and Technology Development (RTD) Prof. Isaac Orina, has underscored TU-K’s commitment in ensuring that the Innovation Week becomes an annual event.  “This will ensure that students get an opportunity to showcase their innovations.”  The DVC made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the inaugural TU-K Innovation Week that ended on Friday 8th May 2026.

Academics and Industry Players Speak At The Innovation Week

Various Key Note speakers continue to address students, academic staff, innovators, exhibitors and the industry players, who are attending the Technical University of Kenya Innovation week which is on its second day.

Cosmas Kemboi – the Chief Manager, Knowledge Management & Innovation at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), speaking on behalf of the Commissioner General, talked about change, a story that began with a simple realisation: “Innovation was never meant to belong only to Silicon Valley, high-tech laboratories, or famous founders in glass towers. Innovation can begin anywhere, even inside an institution once known only for routine, rules, and paperwork.”

The Director of the School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, Professor Tom Kwanya, has been awarded the prestigious SCECSAL Excellence Award 2026, a distinguished recognition conferred by the Standing Conference of Eastern, Central and Southern African Library and Information Associations (SCECSAL).  He was honoured in the Knowledge Creation and Sharing category for his outstanding contributions to the generation, organisation, dissemination, and application of knowledge within the library and information science discipline across the region.

Researchers Present Findings on Socio-Economic Prospects of Samatar–Wajir Road

Researchers from the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K), in collaboration with King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, have presented new interdisciplinary research demonstrating the critical role of transport infrastructure in promoting socio‑economic development in marginalized regions.

The findings were presented at the 1st CIDRA (Creating a Joint Infrastructure for Dialogue, Research and Advocacy between Europe and Africa) Academic Conference, hosted by the University of Dar es Salaam from 15–16 April 2026, under the theme: ‘Regional and Transregional Dimensions in Law and Policymaking’.

TUK Hosts Ground-breaking Training on Bacteriophage Research to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has taken a significant step in strengthening local scientific capacity to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by hosting its first independent hands-on training on bacteriophage research through the Department of Biological and Life Sciences. The workshop brought together researchers, students, and professionals from multiple institutions, all working to find innovative solutions to drug-resistant bacterial infections.

The four-day workshop held from 7th to 10th April 2026 is part of an ongoing collaboration between TU-K and the Phage Hunters Training and Research Program (PHDRP), formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in July 2025. The partnership is focused on building capacity in bacteriophage science through structured training, research, and collaborative innovation.

Shimizu Corporation Explores Partnership with TU-K to Enhance Global Opportunities for Engineering Students

The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) on 10th April 2026 hosted a delegation from Shimizu Corporation of Japan during a courtesy visit. The visit aimed to strengthen ongoing discussions on a Labour Mobility Partnership between Kenyan universities and the Japanese construction giant.  The visit follows a consultative meeting held at the State Department involving Shimizu Corporation and Kenyan universities. Preparations for the partnership are at an advanced stage and are expected to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in June 2026.

The Technical University of Kenya is among 12 State Agencies that have been recognised for outstanding leadership in cascading directives on performance improvement and operational efficiency as demonstrated through comprehensive staff training and sensitisation. TU-K to Sign a Working MoU With KISEB

Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) would soon sign an MoU with the Kenya Institute of Supplies Examination Board (KISEB) to engage in professional Certification training and examination.  Speaking during a sensitisation and stakeholder engagement meeting between staff from TU-K and KISEB as well as students from the Department of Business and Management Studies (DBMS), Prof. Evans Sagwa explained that the MoU will focus on other areas such as participation of KISEB as external stakeholders, in the development of supply chain management curriculum and curricula activities.

Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Meeting Held at TU-K

On 4th of March 2026, the Technical University of Kenya played host to Integrated Food Security Phase Classification for Acute Malnutrition (IPC-AMN) delegation led by the Regional Director, Mr. Belihu Negesse. The main agenda of the visit was to sensitise academia on IPC and strengthen recognition and uptake of IPC curriculum.
