The 3rd International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management

The School of Information and Social Studies, The Technical University of Kenya has organised the 3rd International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management to be held on 2nd - 6th October 2023 at the Sarova Stanley Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. 1St Workshop on Eco-Tanning Processes in Kenya and the East African Region

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) in collaboration with State Department for Livestock Development (SDL), Tanners Association of Kenya (TAK) and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD will hold a workshop on Eco-Tanning processes along the leather value chain in Kenya and the East African Region on Thursday August 17 and Friday August 18, 2023, at the Best Western Plus Meridian Hotel (located on 6th Muranga Road, Off Moi Avenue) in Nairobi, Kenya.

UCL Student Leaders on a Collaboration Visit to TU-K

A team of visiting student leaders from University College, London (UCL) in the United Kingdom is exploring collaborative ways with their Technical University of Kenya counterparts (SATUK) in areas of students’ involvement in community service and learning. The delegation led by Simon To, Director of Policy and Governance at UCL noted that they are keen on sharing best practices with SATUK leadership on opportunities students can take advantage of through community service and volunteering.

TUK Ranked 8th In Global University Rankings

The Technical University of Kenya was listed as one of the top ten universities in Kenya in the July 2023 webometrics university rankings. The university secured the 8th spot out of 124 universities in Kenya. TU-K was ranked 3865 out of 11,989 institutions worldwide and 173 out of 2,064 African institutions.

University Digitizes Appraisals

The Directorate of Human Resource Management (HRM) is currently in the process of digitizing staff performance management and appraisal process. The Directorate in partnership with the Directorate of ICT has developed a digital platform for this purpose. The two Directorates carried out a training to members of staff from various Schools and Administrative units on how to effectively navigate and use the digital performance management and appraisal platform. The trainees are expected to disseminate this knowledge to their colleagues in their respective Departments and offer support to their units.

VC Commends Research Efforts, Awards Certificates

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Shiundu has assured researchers at the university of his full support to ensure TU-K achieves its mandate in research. The Ag.VC said the university is working towards excellence in matters research citing indicators that have placed TU-K among top-rated universities in Kenya. This includes the July Webometrics Rankings that placed TU-K at position eight in kenya overall.

Africa Tech Challenge Season 8 Launched

Africa Tech Challenge (ATC) Season 8 was officially launched by Dr. Esther Muoria, PS, State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training. This year’s challenge will focus on providing an intensive 4-week training on Mechanical Drawing and Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software Application, and that will culminate in a final competition on 25th August 2023.

Mitigating Food insecurity through analyzing Earth Observation data

The Government will soon be able to take informed and responsive measures to address food insecurity in good time through analyzing Earth Observation data. This was unveiled during a recent capacity building workshop to share the preliminary outputs of a collaborative project named ‘Remote sensing and modelling to assess crop-specific response to climate stressors.’

Accreditation of Engineering Courses Enters Homestretch

Engineering programmes at The Technical University of Kenya will soon be accredited. Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) Chairman, Eng. Erastus Mwongera has announced that the accreditation process is currently in its last stage. Eng. Mwongera, who was accompanied by Board Registrar and CEO Eng. Margaret Ogai, spoke during the board’s independent review evaluation exercise at TU-K.

CHPC Offers Computing Resources to TU-K Researchers

The Center for Higher Performance Computing (CHPC) has assured TU-K researchers that they will continue enjoying access to high profile computing resources to enable them conduct more focused research. This was disclosed by Werner Janse Van Rensburg, the CHPC Research Manager when he spoke to scientists and engineers when he visited the university in July 2023.

French TU-K Cooperation

French Embassy to up Collaboration with TU-K

The French Embassy in Nairobi has reaffirmed the French Government support for the collaborative projects with the Technical University of Kenya.

This was disclosed on 4th July 2023 when a delegation from the French Embassy in Nairobi paid a courtesy call to the university to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the TU-K and the French Government.

THE Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) is the leading university in technological education and training in Kenya. The University was awarded a Charter in 2013, making it a fully-fledged public university. The University specialises in training at the Postgraduate, Undergraduate and Diploma levels, while at the same time engaging in research. It has a clear student upward movement policy, which makes it easy for students to move from one level of training to the next, and recognise prior training by awarding students credit transfers. The University has developed and implemented a digitised and completely paperless student applications process; from application to registration. IAEA Competition Video by TUK Students

In this video, TUK student in the School of Chemistry and Material Science highlight the importance of laying nuclear safety and security measures prior to embracing use of nuclear science and technology techniques to drive towards clean reliable nuclear energy, reliable agriculture, medical breakthroughs et cetera. DARA-KOTI Astronomy Training Programme

Africa is becoming the focus for the world of astronomy. Construction is underway of the mid-frequency dishes of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) – the next generation global radio astronomy facility that will be built initially in South Africa, and then rolled out across eight African partner countries, including Kenya. South Africa also hosts the South African Large Telescope (SALT), which with its 10 m diameter mirror is one of the largest optical telescopes in the world.
