Regensburg University To Work with TU-K

Visiting researchers from University of Applied Sciences Regensburg, Germany together with their TU-K counterparts tour chemistry laboratory.

The University of Applied Sciences Regensburg, Germany, is keen to establish a collaboration with TU-K. This was revealed by the delegation that visited the University on 21st October 2025. The Deputy- Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Maurice Amutabi, received the delegation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. He noted that the visit was very important to the University, informing them that TU-K was looking forward the collaboration. The DVC observed that the Germany model of training engineers is a motivation that forms the basis of TUK’s drive to be the hub of technologists’ training within the Eastern African region.

He emphasised that TU-K takes serious hands-on training and that it is committed to partnering with the industry in nurturing talents and training highly skilled graduates who will change the region.

“We are committed to research and other activities that promote global growth. There is no better partnership than connecting science and entrepreneurship,” said Prof. Amutabi.

The delegation was comprised of Mr. Anton Achhammer, Mr. Leon Schumm and Mr. Marco Schamel.  They said that their university was keen on establishing partnerships and collaborations among the academia, business community, industry and other partners.

Mr. Marco noted that the move will create academic environment that is responsive to societal needs.

Present during the visit were Dr. Peter Ndangili (Senior Lecturer Department of Chemistry and Material Science), Nancy Ochiba and Daisy Nyawira (PhD students in the Department), Adika Ladslaus, undergraduate student and Preston Juma, an Administrator in the Department of Chemistry and Material Science.

TU-K has enjoyed cordial partnership with universities and institutions in Germany for many years.

Ochiba and Nyawira have previously been on research stay in Germany’s leading research Center, HZB.

The visiting delegation got a brief overview of TU-K’s ongoing research initiatives in renewable energy and green hydrogen at the same time introduced TU-K ‘s team to their research, “Introduction to “H2Global Meets Africa.” The two groups could jointly undertake the project and consider other areas of cooperation.

The research project is dedicated to the question of how sustainable hydrogen partnerships between Africa and Europe can be established in cooperation. The project will look at integrated value chains, local value creation, export opportunities and the use of the H2Global instrument adapted to the needs of the partner countries.

The delegation later held a session with the student researchers and staff in the Department of Chemistry. They also toured the University laboratories and training facilities.
