TU-K students emerged runner-up in this year’s Kenya Universities Debate Championship (KUDC) hosted at KCA University. Nine students represented TU-K at the 4-day event held between 18th and 21st September 2025. The championship brought together top debaters and speakers from 22 universities from across the country with over 300 participants. The competition was organised by KUDC and is pitched at boosting student’s soft skills through debating and public speaking.
The debating category consisted of various segments including: Performing Arts with Sadik Suleiman and Denis Kenyatta representing the University in newpapers segment, Billi Augustine and Tony Blaire represented the University while car sick face was represented by Paula Olwa and Regan Samarik. Suleiman and Kenyatta finished 1st Runners-Up in the Novice Debate category, bagging a trophy. Tony Blaire Onyango was ranked 8th Best Novice Speaker across the entire championship.
Mark Okeri, Ella Jumwa, and June Mateva represented TU-K in public speaking category. Public speaking category represented by Mark Okeri & Emmanuella Jumwa advanced to the BP Quarterfinals, with Emmanuella battling all the way to the Semifinals. Accompanied by their patron, Mr. Denis Orina Ogato, a Tutorial Fellow in the Department of Creative Arts & Media and Ass. Patron, Ms. Gor Cindy from office of the Dean of Students, the team showcased talent, creativity and spirit of excellence.
